SO Help Me Out Here... Part 1

There is a burgeoning "thing" going on in my life, that has been sitting fallow for a while. Te last 120 hours have been radical. As I go through this "download", I have been processing all sorts of stuff, and I am going to do it here, with the hope that while LOTS of this has already been engaged in lots of places, I have to wrestle this out and need feedback.

Part 1

The Nature/Expression of the Church

For this idea, the church can be thought to exist in 3 basic expressions:

Ultra-Local: The individual. This simplest and most direct expression of the Body of Christ is the believer. They are the “Ekklesia”, and are the Temple of God, His dwelling place.
Local: The corporate expression. Individuals gathered together. This is the most common paradigm of the church.
Extra-Local: The church within a geographical area, such as a city or in our case a county.

The Commandments:

Matt 22:36-40
36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"
37 Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'
38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
(NIV)

The primary commandment is to Love God. Being primary, it MUST be done BEFORE any other one, in fact it must be done at the expense of any others. To do any other thing before doing this, is to be in the wrong place, doing the wrong thing, for the wrong reason. All other things, as good as they are, must be subordinate to this one thing.

An additional thought is to do the 2nd, we must do the first. It would be impossible to do the 2nd in truth without having done the 1st. But having done the 1st, even giving a cold cup of water to someone becomes the 1st.

What does Love God mean?

Love means more than an action in this verse. It is talking about all of the resources, intents, feelings as well as actions. It implies an ongoing, all encompassing idea, not a periodic, event oriented concept.

In addition, this says nothing about classic ideas like “worship” (what I will call expression), “giving”, “study” etc… It is talking about the motives, intents, and paradigms underneath all those activities.

It is talking about a Love Relationship.
